MILWAUKEE (September 6, 2024) - Veolia North America, the leading provider of environmental solutions in the U.S. and Canada, celebrated its ongoing commitment to downtown Milwaukee with the grand opening and unveiling of a new office space at a historic downtown address. Spanning the entirety of the third floor in the ASQ North Office Tower, the new space will hold approximately 150 employees, and will allow Veolia to continue to expand its Milwaukee workforce with close access to the Milwaukee River and RiverWalk systems. Designed with collaboration in mind, the new space offers a mix of individual workspaces, meeting areas, and social gathering opportunities to ensure it meets all the needs of the workforce while maximizing team comfort.
"Milwaukee sets the standard for how cities on the Great Lakes can protect their environment, grow their economies, provide strong opportunities for their residents and enhance their water resources amid ecological disruption. Veolia is proud of our longstanding partnership with the city of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to tackle the most pressing climate and sustainability concerns,” said Fred Van Heems, Chief Executive Officer at Veolia North America. “This new office location will allow us to engage with, attract and retain talent by tapping into a robust workforce centered in Milwaukee, and to establish ourselves as an employer of choice as we continue to grow in the region. We are grateful to have strong support from community leaders and in our partnership with The Water Council. This collaboration represents a significant commitment to building a strong workforce ready to meet the growing demands in the water and wastewater industry.”
The move to downtown follows the recent trend of suburban tenants seeking office space near the Milwaukee River. At a grand opening event yesterday, community leaders including Mayor Cavalier Johnson, U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore and U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, were given a first look at the work Veolia will be doing to continue to attract and retain talent and its leading role in protecting North America’s water resources.
Van Heems and Veolia North America Municipal Water CEO Karine Rougé joined Dean Amhaus, President and CEO of The Water Council, to announce a new partnership launching the Water & Wastewater Workforce Center in Milwaukee. This initiative is designed to grow the local water workforce, increase the pool of diverse talent and address workforce challenges in the industry. The collaboration will also work to advance new water and energy technologies to support Wisconsin’s Water + Energy Forward Engine, an initiative from The Water Council to develop critical water, energy and waste technology solutions for small and mid-size manufacturers and utility providers.
“I think this partnership is really critical as we look to grow the city of Milwaukee, basically doubling the city's population, growing towards a million people. Those folks need to have access to good paying and family supported jobs. And that is what is represented with Veolia, that's what's represented with working in water and energy. That's what is represented with working in wastewater, as well as the drinking water. So there are plenty of opportunities that are available here in Milwaukee,” said Mayor Johnson.
Veolia operates the wastewater treatment system for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District in addition to facilities around Wisconsin, including a significant electronics recycling center in Port Washington and water and wastewater operations in Sturgeon Bay, Algoma and Black River Falls.
