The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), presented an award to Veolia's 10-Day facility in Vancouver, Washington, on June 5. The award recognized the site’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status, granted in March for its strong record of safety and health compliance and community outreach.
The Vancouver site has been recognized as a VPP Star facility since 2014. When the site received VPP Star status for the first time, the site had surpassed 5,000 days without a lost time injury. Today, the site is celebrating over 9,050 days without a lost time accident.
The site is currently operated by seven employees, including Operations Manager Vince Brown. Vince is celebrating his 35th year of service at Veolia this year.
Vince said the VPP recognition is a mark of excellence. “I find pride that we are one of the oldest VPP sites in the state and that DOSH is excited to visit and spend time at our site,” he said. “It means that we are doing what’s required to ensure our employees go home safe every day and that we strive for continual improvement.”
The site is looking forward to sharing its VPP experience and knowledge with the ESS 10-Day facility located in Kent, Washington, which plans to apply for VPP in 2025. Kent would join the program as ESS’s 11th VPP Site, a sign of Veolia’s deep commitment to GoalZero.
